Today, I live on the south/east coast of Norway, in a smallish city called Sandefjord. In just over a month, I’ll be living on the west coast of Norway, in our fourth largest city; Stavanger. Just over a month, and I’ve yet to find myself an apartment. Just over a month, and I’ve yet to find a buyer for my current apartment. I guess these financially troubled times might be more than something you hear about in the news, after all. Am I worried, though? Hell no, I´m totally excited! All the practical stuff will work itself out in due time, given enough effort (and I´m a persistent bugger! :p).
Past, Present
As you might have guessed, this means I´m also leaving my current job at Visma. I feel I’ve had a good run there for the last three-and-some years, and I’ve had the pleasure to work with some really talented and great people like Einar Ingebrigtsen and others (they don´t blog so they don´t get any link love :p). I’ve had a lot of fun, a few frustrations and a large and complex business domain to keep me on my toes. I feel that I’ve grown a lot both professionally and personally there, and although I´m excited about moving on, I´m certainly a bit sentimental about leaving as well.
The Future…
From January 2009, I’ll be a senior consultant at Capgemini. The change from working for an independent software vendor to becoming a consultant was a very conscious choice for me, and picking Capgemini was really an easy decision as well: I’ll be joining the ranks of some of my favorite Norwegian developers like Jonas Follesø, Gøran Hansen and Sondre Bjellås (although none of them work at the Stavanger office, which is a shame!).
I´m also hoping to get further involved in the Norwegian .NET community, doing more presentations and evangelism work in the future (my next appearance will be at GeekBeer in Oslo on the 18th of December. Technical content may vary).
…of the blog?
So what does this mean for my blog? Not much, I don´t think – I certainly plan to blog as much as (or more than) before. Hopefully my job as a consultant will mean I get to tackle a broader diversity of projects than before, so that might certainly reflect the diversity of content herein. But that´s a good thing, I think :)
Bags of Cats
So. With this post, the cat is finally out of the bag! I’ve waited a bit to make this news official, as I’ve wanted to keep my focus firmly on my current job all the way to the finishing line. But there it is – it all feels a lot more real the closer it gets these days. I can´t wait. And I´m a bit scared. Which I find reassuring, in a backward kind of way.
